A 29-year-old man suspected of driving under the influence resulting in the death of a 47-year-old woman in Palmdale has been taken into custody, authorities announced Monday.

Officers were dispatched around 12:07 a.m. Sunday to Sierra Highway, south of Avenue E, regarding a two-vehicle head-on collision involving a 1999 Chevrolet and a 2018 Hyundai, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Detectives learned, after further investigation, that the Chevrolet, driven by the 29-year-old suspect identified only as Gonzalez of Palmdale, was traveling southbound on Sierra Highway and was witnessed drifting into opposite traffic lanes several times before colliding head-on with the Hyundai, driven by a 47-year-old woman from Rosamond.
