GRAND FORKS – Some Grand Forks City Council members shared concerns on Monday about details of a purchase agreement for new ultrafiltration membranes for the city’s water treatment plant, questioning why the supplying company redacted certain details from the provided information.

The redacted material, to which council member Rebecca Osowski objected during discussion about the membranes, is included in the sole source letter provided by Veolia, a French transnational company that provides the filters. Sole source means only one supplier can provide a needed product, leading to a noncompetitive purchasing agreement.

The redacted information is featured in sections related to pricing breakdowns for the filter equipment, maintenance notes for replacing the membranes, payment details, etc.
