SHREVEPORT, La. — Black Restaurant Week officially began tonight in Shreveport, with organizers hosting a cooking lesson to launch the event.

The kick-off was held at the MS KICK Commercial Kitchen. Attendees, including friends of Caddo Parish Commissioner Victor Thomas, received cooking tips from executive chefs representing local establishments, including The Smoking Oyster and The Saucy Caterer.

The week is organized by the Shreveport-Bossier African American Chamber of Commerce. The event aims to promote local Black-owned culinary businesses and often serves as a good cause as the holiday season approaches.

Black Restaurant Week will run through Oct. 25, encouraging the community to support and experience the diversity of the area's Black-owned dining establishments.
