MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Memphis Safe Task Force arrested a felon who admitted he was a member of a Memphis street gang for possession of a gun, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Barrington J. Harwell, 28, who admitted he is a part of the Vice Lords gang, was federally charged with felon in possession of a firearm.

The U.S. Marshals Service said a traffic stop was conducted for a motor vehicle infraction, and Harwell was identified as the owner of the vehicle.

According to the release, authorities with the Memphis Safe Task Force seized two handguns during the stop.

Harwell’s arrest comes as new numbers show crime reports in Memphis decreasing since the arrival of the Memphis Safe Task Force.
