A 42-year-old man has been charged second-degree murder in the death of an 80-year-old man in Oshawa last week.
In a news release Monday, investigators said the accused is the victim’s son.
On Oct. 16, police responded to a call about unknown trouble near Simcoe Street S. and McGrigor Street, where they found the Ibraham Bala injured.
Bala died at the scene, police said in a news release.
In a statement on Friday, the Islamic Centre of Oshawa said the victim was “a very dear community brother.”

Bala had lived in Oshawa since the 1970s, City councillor Derek Giberson said last week.
He was “the first to be a friend” to newcomers to Oshawa and helped them form roots in the city, he said.
