WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — As the air cools down outside, the temperature starts to go up in our homes. Before firing up your furnace or fireplace, firefighters in the Wilkes-Barre Fire Department recommend cleaning them.
It's also important to have a working carbon monoxide detector. For space heaters, make sure there are no flammable objects within 10 feet, and avoid plugging in space heaters to power strips as well.
"Check your baseboard heaters, make sure that your children didn't shove anything down inside them over the summer, things like that, there's no matchbox cars, plastic, or anything in there that may melt or catch on fire," said Assistant Fire Chief Travis Temarantz, City of Wilkes-Barre Fire Department.
