Detroit — The field of new candidates vying for seats on the Detroit Board of Police Commissioners includes a former board secretary, a man who for years has been a vocal presence at board meetings and an attorney with the State Appellate Defender Office.
But voters won't see any names on the Nov. 4 ballot for three of the seven seats at stake in the general election for the civilian board, which has oversight of the Detroit Police Department. The board has 11 members, with seven elected and four mayoral appointees. No candidates filed in time to get on the Nov. 4 ballot in Districts 1, 3 and 5, meaning write-in candidates will win the seats.
