RIDGECREST, Calif. (KGET) -- A Kern County couple has been arrested on charges of child abuse and torture. Brittney and Matthew James were taken into custody Thursday on Bellaire Avenue in North Edwards a small desert community just West of Boron. Their arraignment was expected in Mojave court on Monday.   A mix up with the courts led 17 News to Ridgecrest where the couple was expected to be arraigned. A group of North Edwards community members, waited outside the courthouse praying for the couple. While they didn't go on camera, they said the two were innocent.

On Thursday, the sheriff's office said they received a report of child abuse at a home in North Edwards. Investigators identified three victims under the age of 14, and placed them in protective custody. Officials confirmed Matthe
