Sydney coach Dean Cox has shed light on the “tough” decision to trade two contracted players to help land superstar forward Charlie Curnow.
The Swans traded Will Hayward and a series of first-round draft picks in the blockbuster deal for Curnow, as well as shipping Ollie Florent to the Blues in a separate trade to clear salary cap space.
Another contracted midfielder, James Rowbottom, was also talked up as a possible trade option during a tense trade period that culminated in the Swans landing the dual Coleman medallist in the final minutes before the deadline.
Hayward and Florent had both pledged their future to the club by signing long-term deals through to the end of 2029 last year.
