Savers are being encouraged to use an app tool to bolster their savings. This feature, available with major banks such as Lloyds Bank, Nationwide Building Society and Halifax, can be used when making regular payments like grocery shopping or getting a coffee.

Mike Ambery, retirement savings director at Standard Life , offered some advice on how to increase your savings. One suggestion he made is to use a feature of banking apps, that allows you to round up the amount you pay for an item and deposit the difference into your savings.
