Regardless of who wins, the result will mark the first time in 45 years in Calgary that an incumbent mayoral candidate has been defeated

Jeromy Farkas or Sonya Sharp will serve as Calgary’s next mayor, unofficial results from the city’s municipal election indicate.

After a hectic campaign, the former Ward 11 councillor and leader of the Communities First party were neck-and-neck as Calgary’s municipal election night dragged on, in a crowded field that also included incumbent Jyoti Gondek, former Ward 6 councillor Jeff Davison and former police commission chair Brian Thiessen.

As of 1:00 a.m., Farkas held a roughly 1,000-vote lead over Sharp, with 339 of 380 polls reporting. The pair’s support hovered around 27 per cent of votes each.

A win for either Farkas or Sharp would mark the firs
