Local police arrested a man at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Monday morning who was allegedly planning a mass shooting. As reported by ABC7, the suspect had intended to use an assault rifle that was later found inside his pickup truck to injure and kill as many people as possible, but was thwarted thanks to a tip.
The arrest came after airport and city officials, in coordinated response, escalated security and conducted searches around the implicated terminals once the tip was verified. Authorities seized the rifle and 27 rounds of ammunition in the suspect's pickup truck, which was parked outside the airport terminal. While the attack was thwarted, this represents one of the most concerning attempts to attack an airport in recent times.
