Motorists faced significant delays on the M62 this morning following a multi-vehicle collision that resulted in the closure of two lanes. The incident occurred on the eastbound side of the motorway near Warrington in Cheshire, specifically between junction eight for Burtonwood and junction nine for Warrington.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene shortly after 9am to manage the situation. According to National Highways, lanes three and four were closed to facilitate the response. As a result, traffic began to build up, with queues stretching back to junction six.
By 10:30, the situation began to improve as all lanes were reopened. However, motorists were still experiencing delays of approximately 90 minutes. National Highways advised drivers to allow extra time for their journeys due to the residual congestion.
Camera footage captured the extent of the queues, which had been significant earlier in the morning. In a post on X, National Highways confirmed, "Delays have now exceeded 60 minutes. Lanes 3 and 4 (of 4) are closed on the #M62 eastbound between J8 (#Burtonwood) and J9 (#Warrington) due to a multi-vehicle collision. Emergency services are working on scene. Please allow plenty journey time if possible."
As traffic conditions continue to improve, drivers are still urged to remain cautious and expect potential delays as the aftermath of the incident unfolds.
