As the glow of Diwali lit up homes across India, with people wearing new clothes, bursting firecrackers, and decorating their homes with rangolis, a quiet stillness settled over a few villages in Mirzapur district, Uttar Pradesh. In places like Bhawa, Atari, and nearby areas of the Rajgarh region, the Chauhan Kshatriya families did not celebrate Diwali. For them, the day was not one of joy but of remembrance and grief.

According to local belief, it was on this very day that the great warrior king Prithviraj Chauhan was killed by Muhammad Ghori. The Chauhan Kshatriya families in these villages consider Prithviraj Chauhan their revered ancestor and a symbol of valour. To honour his memory, they observed the day in silence rather than celebration.
