CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Part of I-485 will be closed for several hours Tuesday morning after an 18-wheeler flipped over on its side in north Charlotte.

The Oct. 21 crash happened around 4:30 a.m., just past the Exit 18 ramp to Oakdale Road.

When the truck flipped, it came to a rest sideways across multiple lanes.

More than two miles of backups had formed by about 6:30 a.m.

It is unclear if any other vehicles were involved in the crash, or what caused the tractor-trailer to tip over.

Paramedics said one person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries stemming from the wreck, and that the inner loop on I-485 would be closed for “a while.”

State transportation that part of the interstate would be fully reopened by about 9:30 a.m.
