Tens of thousands of highly skilled people in specialised fields boost the American economy each year after obtaining H-1B status, it said.

The USD 100,000 fee introduced by the Trump administration for new H-1B visa applications will not apply to those seeking a “change of status” or an “extension of stay,” according to new guidelines issued by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) on Monday.

The USCIS clarified the exemptions to President Donald Trump’s September 19 proclamation, “Restriction on Entry of Certain Nonimmigrant Workers,” which significantly increases the fee for new H-1B visa petitions to USD 100,000 (approximately Rs 88 lakh).
