When 27-year-old homeowner Christy Giglio and her husband bought their first house in Connecticut last year, they knew they were signing up for a few surprises.
But nothing quite prepared them for what they found lurking beneath their crumbling porch—a huge, moss-covered hot tub that hadn’t been opened in decades.
“We knew immediately that we wanted to remove the hot tub when we had the house inspected because the entire porch was crumbling and not built to code,” Giglio told Newsweek . “We were looking for a home we could fix up, and this one had some quirks we were willing to take on.”
The couple, both born and raised in New York City, bought the property just before Giglio’s 26th birthday in July 2024.
