WASHINGTON —
Vice President JD Vance and the second lady are in Israel today to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, following deadly violence over the weekend that threatens the fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. This visit comes after Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and the president's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, met with Netanyahu on Monday to discuss developments in the region.
Under the terms of the ceasefire , Hamas is expected to turn over the remains of 28 hostages. Hamas turned over one yesterday, bringing the total returned to 13.
Over the weekend, Israel's military reported that militants fired at troops in areas under Israeli control shortly after humanitarian aid into Gaza was paused. The aid has since resumed.
