PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island Hospital will soon transition some nursing shifts to 12 hours.
Brown University Health said the change will come at the end of the month for inpatient and emergency department nurses.
"This change is designed to optimize staffing, enhance continuity of care, and strengthen quality and safety for both our staff and patients, and is consistent with best nursing practices throughout the country," said a Brown University Health spokesperson.
The United Nurses and Allied Professionals (UNAP) is fighting back against the changes.
In part of a statement, UNAP said Brown Health needs to start "prioritizing patient care and respecting the nurses and health professionals who provide that care."
