OSHKOSH, Wis. (WBAY) - The Winnebago County Board of Supervisors will talk about the impacts the federal government shutdown is having on the county when it meets Tuesday night.

The board is expected to vote on whether to ask the state for help to provide SNAP benefits.

The county says changes from President Trump’s latest tax cut bills would cause the county and state to cover 75% of SNAP benefit costs, when it was previously 50%, and that additional 25% could seriously impact other county services.

If passed, a formal request would be sent to the governor’s office to ask for state funding to offset the federal funding cuts to the food program.
