LEETON, Mo. (KCTV) - Someone intentionally set fire to a cornerstone of the Leeton community in Johnson County, Missouri.
Fire investigators now say someone targeted the 129-year-old Leeton United Methodist Church on Wall Street.
Leeton sits about 90 minutes southeast of the Kansas City metro and about 20 minutes south of Warrensburg.
The historic church, built in 1896, has been the heart of the small Missouri town for generations.
“It’s heartbreaking to see a place that has stood for generations be deliberately set on fire,” said JCFPD Captain Joe Jennings. “This church isn’t just a building; it’s part of the history and identity of Leeton. Seeing it damaged in this way is difficult for the entire community.”
