MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WDBJ) - The Virginia Department of Transportation is warning NASCAR fans coming to Martinsville to expect an increase in traffic in traffic.

Starting on Thursday, October 23, through Sunday, October 26, VDOT is encouraging fans driving to and from Martinsville Speedway to follow the recommended traffic patterns listed below this article, to follow posted signage and to check for updates.

The department will place many signs and changeable message boards throughout the area to assist travelers. They also warn that there will be an increase in vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Traffic is being routed to the racetrack in certain patterns to prevent as much congestion as possible. VDOT also says to watch for the speed limit to reduce gradually from 65 mph to 35 mph on
