Workers are tearing down the East Wing facade of the White House as construction for a new state ballroom sought by President Donald Trump gets underway.
The demolition is part of a construction project for the future $250 million White House state ballroom , Reuters reported this week.
President Donald Trump announced plans for the ballroom this past summer, though at the time he said the initiative would not impact the current White House structure, Reuters reported.
"It will be beautiful," Trump said at the time. "It won't interfere with the current building. It won't be — it will be near it, but not touching it. And pays total respect to the existing building, which I'm the biggest fan of. It's my favorite."
