In an online video interview posted last week by independent media channel Northern Perspective, Pierre Poilievre called RCMP leadership “despicable” for their alleged neglect of or even complicity in Liberal malfeasance under prime minister Justin Trudeau.

Trudeau’s violations of the Conflict of Interest Act with respect to the SNC Lavalin affair, and to his vacation with friends and family on the Aga Khan’s Bahamian island, would “normally have led to criminal charges, but of course the RCMP covered it all up,” said Poilievre. He said “jail time” would have been appropriate.

And now the Conservative leader is walking it back: He just meant former RCMP commissioner Brenda Lucki was despicable.

It was a poor show, beginning to end.

Lucki was pretty awful at her job , to be fair. S
