Scammers are targeting UK households in numerous ways, but there are familiar patterns Brits can watch out for in a bid to avoid them.

Just recently, the Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ) warned people about fraudsters trying to trick people into responding to messages claiming to be about Winter Fuel Payments .

In total, seven million Britons fell victim to a scam in the past 12 months, according to Citizens Advice.

Here are some of the common forms these scams can take.

Investment fraud

Investment fraudsters are particularly pernicious, as they slowly build trust through extended dialogue.

Once they feel comfortable enough, they will then mention some bogus golden opportunity to invest in crypto, property, or, you guessed it, gold.
