The Bergen County Animal Shelter is searching for someone to give an elderly Cane Corso mix named Piper the loving home she never had (scroll for contact info).
Piper came to the shelter as a stray from the streets of Englewood in May, after she was found vomiting up trash, according to Shelter Manager Meg Tedeschi. Veterinarians discovered staples in her stomach, suggesting she had been eating whatever she could find to survive, officials believe.
The grey Cane Corso was also covered in masses and calluses, signs she may have been kept on concrete for much of her life, according to the shelter.
Now, the Bergen County Animal Shelter is hoping to place her in a foster-hospice, or “fospice,” home, where she can live comfortably for the rest of her days.
“We just want to give her a life,” Tedeschi said.
Despite her condition, Piper is sweet, calm, and easy to walk. Shelter staff say she’s relaxed, tolerant, easy to please, outgoing, loves food, and even likes to share. She may also do well with children, pending a meet and greet, Tedeschi said.
The shelter will provide all food and medication — all her foster family needs to give her is love.
Anyone interested in fostering Piper can contact Meg Tedeschi at mtedeschi@bergencountynj.gov.
