INDIANAPOLIS -- Tuesday marked Day 21 of the government shutdown, with no end in sight, leaving tens of thousands of Hoosiers still working without pay, and affecting their ability to feed their families.
Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana is helping provide food for federal employees who don't know when their next paycheck will arrive.
Approximately 24,000 Hoosiers work for the federal government to provide important services through the TSA, FAA, Social Security and more. On top of that, 1,100 Hoosiers serve in the active-duty military. Many of them will also stop receiving pay this month.
Fred Glass, president and CEO of Gleaners, said the food bank has reached out to all impacted agencies to offer its support, and has already partnered with TSA at the Indianapolis International Airport.
