A 19-year-old driver was fined $1,386 for excessive speeding in Montérégie on Sunday.

Vaudreuil-Soulanges Ouest MRC patrol officers stopped the driver around 3 a.m. while he was speeding on the Monseigneur-Langlois Bridge in Coteau-du-Lac.

According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the young driver from Rivière-Beaudette was traveling at a speed of 138 km/h in a 70 km/h zone.

“He was fined $1,386 and assessed 14 demerit points,” the SQ said in a news release. “The man also had his driver’s license suspended for seven days.”

The SQ added that that speeding is one of the leading causes of fatal collisions on Quebec roads.
