The audit found the military didn’t bring in enough new people to replace those who left.
The Canadian Armed Forces neither recruited enough new soldiers nor properly managed housing for existing ones, Auditor-General Karen Hogan concluded in a pair of reports released Tuesday.
The audits of military recruitment and housing land as the Liberal government rolls out $9-billion in new defence spending, including pay raises to improve recruitment and retention. The federal government has also previously promised to spend $2-billion over 20 years on military housing.
Ms. Hogan reviewed recruitment between the spring of 2022 and 2025, before the new pay package was announced.
Though over the period of the audit, 192,00 people applied online to join the Forces, 54 per cent ultimately droppe
