A well-marked low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal unleashed widespread rainfall across Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, prompting multiple flood warnings and an orange alert for coastal and delta districts.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai said the system is expected to strengthen into a depression by Wednesday afternoon and move west-northwest toward the north Tamil Nadu -south Andhra Pradesh coast, with further intensification likely on Thursday.
A second weather system, another well-marked low-pressure area over the southeast Arabian Sea, is also poised to become a depression within 24 hours, feeding additional moisture into the region.
