CHARDON, Ohio — The Geauga Park District is asking voters to approve a property tax increase and renewal on the Nov. 4 ballot to help fund park upkeep and improvements.

If passed, the 20-year, 1.2-mill tax would collect about $3.38 million for the park system each year.

The new portion of the tax, representing 0.5 mills, would cost property owners an additional $17.50 per year for every $100,000 in home value. The old portion of the tax, at 0.7 mills, has been in place since 1985, and costs about $5.50 annually per $100,000 in home value.

Geauga Park District Executive Director John Oros said the levy is needed to meet community expectations and address aging infrastructure throughout the park system.
