SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – A crash has closed Highway 126 in Springfield at milepost 9 with detours for both east- and west-bound traffic, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Springfield police have confirmed one fatality in the crash but no other reported injuries.

According to ODOT’s Tripcheck website, the Thurston-area crash has closed all lanes of traffic on Highway 126. Eastbound traffic will detour via 42nd Street while westbound traffic will detour through 126B Main Street.

ODOT officials said the closure could last for an extended period and recommended that motorists seek alternate routes, slow down, and watch for emergency responders working in the area.
