LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Michigan State University has been ranked in the top 5 percent of institutions worldwide by Times Higher Education.

In the 2026 World University Rankings , MSU placed 105th out of 2,191 institutions, a jump of 17 places from last year and its highest position in the past four years.

Among the 171 U.S. colleges and universities ranked, MSU came in at No. 38, an improvement of four spots.

MSU’s global ranking of No. 105 also places it at No. 10 among the 18 Big Ten institutions, up three positions from the previous year.

While five Big Ten universities improved their rankings by an average of seven places, MSU’s leap from No. 122 to No. 105 was the largest among them.
