A Scots-Israeli living in Tel Aviv has told of her hope the Gaza ceasefire and release of hostages can be a moment of political change in Israel. ‌

Edinburgh-born Danielle Bett, 35 - who took part in antiwar protests calling for the return of hostages from Hamas throughout the two-year conflict - said the tentative peace deal struck last week had brought “relief” to Israelis. ‌

The agreement saw the return of the remaining 20 living hostages in emotional scenes in Israel on Monday. ‌

But Danielle - who has previously condemned the "horrific" assault on Gaza - said a reckoning now awaits Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and his far-right coalition government with an election to be held by October 2026.
