A Calumet City man is accused of fatally shooting a 40-year-old woman who attempted to deescalate a fight he was having with his girlfriend early Saturday in Fuller Park on the South Side.

Demar King, 35, was charged with first degree murder, aggravated fleeing and damaging more than $300 of property, and several misdemeanors and traffic citations, Chicago police said. King was scheduled to appear for a detention hearing at the Leighton Criminal Court building.

Around 12:40 a.m. Saturday , King was on a rented party bus with a large group of family and friends for a birthday celebration. As they drove around the city celebrating, King, who was one of the guests, began arguing with his girlfriend and her friend, according to police reports.
