FAIRFAX, Vt (ABC22/FOX44) - Since opening enrollment in December of last year, over 11,000 Vermonters have signed up for the 'Vermont Saves' program, run through the State Treasurers office.
The program helps establish retirement plans for individuals not provided one by their employer.
For folks like Catherine Emil, owner and director of the Vermont Woodworking School, the program is a huge benefit.
"Because we're a small business, it's hard to be able to afford to participate in a larger retirement program through financial institutions," Emil explains. "It feels like an amazing benefit we can offer our employees."
The school typically has 6 full-time staff members and up to 15 student assistants.
The no cost program helps their staff save for the future while also keeping costs low
