SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The National Trust for Historic Preservation has awarded a $185,245 grant to Canton Lutheran Church in Canton, SD.

This is the first grant to a South Dakota congregation from the National Fund for Sacred Places, which is providing $8.73 million in total to 30 significant historic faith communities nationwide.

The National Fund for Sacred Places program is a collaboration between the National Trust for Historic Preservation and Partners for Sacred Places.

This program offers capital grants and technical assistance to historically significant faith communities for crucial preservation projects, like roof repairs, HVAC replacement, waterproofing, stone repair, and more.

Canton Lutheran Church will be using the funds for work on the building’s exterior
