The spookiest aspect of October 2025 isn’t Halloween , it’s Mercury retrograde .

On Oct. 21 — the same day as the new moon in Libra — Mercury in Scorpio begins to slow down and refocus its energy on the events unfolding before us.

Since this cosmic phenomenon is happening on the day of the new moon in Libra, relationships, money and friendships might be the focal point of the journey. There could be makeups, breakups and shakeups to the foundation of partnerships — also, false starts to new beginnings.

We call this period pre-retrograde because in the two weeks before the actual retrograde begins, our world seems to get wonky, particularly in communication, travel and technology. Exes or old pals might start orbiting our social media to get our attention.
