EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Santa Teresa Middle School was placed on a secure status Tuesday, Oct. 21, after a report of a student bringing knives onto the campus, according to the Gadsden Independent School District.

The school district said the student was quickly identified, and two knives were recovered and confiscated without incident.

Parents were notified just after 11 a.m. through the Remind messaging system, alerting them that the school was in a secure/hold status.

The hold was lifted just after 12 p.m., and a second message was sent to confirm that normal operations had resumed, the school district said.

The secure status was used to limit hallway movement and keep students in the classroom while law enforcement conducted their response, the school district said.
