OpenAI is stepping into Google’s territory. The ChatGPT maker announced on Tuesday it’s launching its own web browser, called Atlas, marking a direct challenge to the world’s most popular browser, Chrome.
OpenAI, now the world’s most valuable startup, hopes Atlas will become a gateway for online searches and a new stream of ad revenue. Despite ChatGPT’s popularity, with over 800 million users, most access the chatbot for free.
The San Francisco–based company is still losing more money than it makes and has been searching for ways to turn that massive user base into profit, the Associated Press reported.
Atlas launched for Apple laptops and will soon roll out to Windows, iPhones, and Android devices, OpenAI said.
