A call-out for ideas to name an outdoor space in Port Dalhousie earlier this year elicited more than 200 submissions to the City of St. Catharines.

The city has narrowed down the suggestions to three finalists and is asking residents to vote for their favourite.

They are Lakeside Commons, Old Lock One Commons and N. Carlos Garcia Commons.

The soon-to-be-named area at 45 Lakeport Rd. , near Lock Street, serves as a community event space and concert stage.

It was the location of Lock 1 of the second Welland Canal from 1845 to 1935 until it was replaced by the third canal.

Over the years, it was turned into a sunken garden, but the area fell into disrepair and was overgrown.
