OLYMPIA, Wash. — On Monday, Washington Attorney General Nick Brown joined a coalition of 21 attorneys general filing a letter in support of Planned Parenthood and its challenge of the Trump administration’s efforts to defund the nonprofit’s health centers .

The "Defund Provision," enacted as part of Trump's Big Beautiful Bill Act, blocks federal Medicaid funding for essential medical services such as cancer screenings, birth control, STI testing, and wellness exams provided at “prohibited entities.”

The Washington AG's office says criteria for a “prohibited entity” were crafted so that the provision applies almost exclusively to Planned Parenthood, and punishes the organization for providing and advocating in support of abortion care.
