OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits are expected to be suspended starting Nov. 1 in Oklahoma as the federal government shutdown continues.
The Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) stated that they were notified by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) of the nationwide suspension. This will impact more than 600,000 Oklahomans who rely on this benefit to purchase food each month.
According to OKDHS, no new SNAP benefits will be issued on Nov. 1; however, Oklahomans can continue to use their benefits and any remaining balance on their EBT cards until Oct. 31.
It is unclear at this time whether any existing balances will be accessible after the November 1 deadline.
