A hundred trees will be planted along the Lafitte Greenway this week as members of the Louisiana Green Corps , SOUL (Sustaining Our Urban Landscape) and the Lafitte Greenway Partnership work to boost the tree canopy in Treme-Lafitte.

The work is the result of a $1.5 million American Forestry grant. It will provide workforce development and the ability to plant a total of 400 trees on the 2.6-mile linear park along a former railroad corridor.

“The Lafitte Greenway is not only the most used bike trail in New Orleans, it’s also one of the city’s biggest sites for green infrastructure and reforestation,” said Jason Neville, executive director of Lafitte Greenway Partnership.
