A sudden power outage forced Penn State Harrisburg to shut down its campus Tuesday morning, officials said.
The outage began around 11:45 a.m., impacting all buildings across campus. The university’s chancellor decided to close campus operations shortly afterwards, citing a need for electrical service.
Todd Camp, Executive Director of Administrative Services at Penn State Harrisburg, told PennLive that the campus’s central heat plant experienced a failure, affecting multiple buildings.
Camp said the university has an electric vendor on site and is looking for two things: a short-term solution to restore power until a permanent fix can be made; and the parts needed to fix the switch. At the moment, the university doesn’t know when students and staff can return to campus.
