WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — Amazon is taking steps to speed up deliveries, and a new factory in Waterbury is part of that process.
The company held a ceremonial groundbreaking Tuesday for its newest Robotics Fulfillment Center. The center, which is 3 million square feet, will be used for storage, packing and shipment to other Amazon facilities.
"For decades, this municipal-owned land sat undeveloped," Glendowyn Thames, head of Connecticut economic development at Amazon, said. "Now, it will become an economic catalyst that will generate substantial revenue for local services while creating jobs and educational opportunities for area residents."
The collaboration between the state, Waterbury, Naugatuck and Amazon is expected to create 1,000 new full-time jobs for Connecticut residents once
