New York Post columnist and Fox News contributor Miranda Devine said United States President Donald Trump’s first official meeting with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was a diplomatic success for Australia - but it was the tense exchange with ambassador Kevin Rudd which stole global attention.

Speaking to Sky News host Sharri Markson, Ms Devine described the moment when Sky News political editor Andrew Clennell asked President Trump what he thought of Mr Rudd, who had previously labelled him “the most destructive President in history”.

“I thought it was fantastic that Andrew Clinnell asked such a brilliant question,” she said.

“He was standing right behind Kevin Rudd when he asked Donald Trump, what do you think of the ambassador to Australia who has been so rude about you in the past?
