SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Savannah State University (SSU) is introducing artificial intelligence training to all first-year students in an effort to better prepare them for a rapidly changing job market.

The IBM SkillsBuild AI Freshmen HBCU Initiative focuses on expanding students’ career readiness through foundational AI skills and digital credentials.

Andrea L. Moore, a professor at SSU, said the move reflects the realities of today’s workforce.

“In the technologically driven economy that exists today, our students have to be able to compete,” she said.

University officials pointed to the World Economic Forum’s 2025 Jobs Report, which shows technology skills, including AI, are in growing demand across industries.
