A man is in critical condition after he was shot by police during an incident in East Windsor, New Jersey , on Tuesday, police said.

According to police, they responded to a report of a man breaking into an abandoned home at the 300 block of Etra Road at around 12:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 21.

When officers arrived at the scene, they encountered a man and during the interaction shots were fired, police said.

No officers were injured in the incident, but the man was critically injured, police said.

New Jersey State Police and the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office are investigating the shooting, which is protocol for an officer-involved shooting in New Jersey.
