ZACHARY, La. (WAFB) - A piece of history in the heart of Zachary is getting a new lease on life as workers restore the old town hall built in the 1930s.
The historic building has served multiple purposes over the decades, holding prisoners, housing fire engines, and once serving as the mayor’s office.
For Mayor David McDavid, the old blockhouse holds personal significance as the place where his career and sense of duty first took root.
“I started working here as a reserve officer, I worked out of this building,” McDavid said. “I was 18, just out of high school. And that’s been something I’ve been very grateful for all my life.”
